How the Group works

Open participation

The format is informal and open-ended. UN Member States, General Assembly Observers and UN entities may express interest in joining.

Meetings

The agreed working methods provide for ambassadorial meetings in New York at least once or twice a year, extraordinary meetings on request, and ministerial meetings at agreed times and venues.

Coordination

The Group is co-chaired by Turkmenistan and China, as reflected in the November 2026 meeting documents. The 2024 declaration sets out a two-co-chair model with a one-year term and geographical rotation.

Supporting structures

The Group’s functions are supported by its Secretariat, Advisory Council and other structures agreed by members.

Based on the Mission’s GFST information and the Final Declaration referenced in A/78/881. Current co-chair information is also reflected in the organizer-provided November 2026 concept note.
